District Championship (State final 16). The Firebirds of the Fairmont variety had scored the first five points when Jasmine Ballew made West’s icebreaker basket with a driving layup three minutes into the game. Ally Haar came off the bench to sink a trey with one minute showing in the first quarter to force the first lead change of the game (10-8). West was able to force the final lead change of the game (12-11) with 11 seconds remaining in the first stanza. From that point forward West steadily pulled away from Fairmont. Haar also sank trademark trey’s with less than 5 seconds showing at the ends of both the second and third quarters and finished her afternoon’s work with a team leading fourteen point total. Ballew who opened the West scoring in the first quarter checked out of the game with two free throws and 10 points total shortly after the fourth quarter began. Eight Lakota West players saw game action coming off the bench. They outscored their Fairmont counterparts by a whooping 32 to 2 margin. West also outrebounded the rival Firebirds 32-22 with Abby Prohaska having a game leading 9 boards. Prohaska continues to rewrite the Lakota West record book. In this contest her game high three assists boosted her career assist total to 270, a new Lakota West girls basketball record. That’s two more than the previous record which had been held by Abby’s former teammate Nia Staples, class of 2016.
