Slow and steady wins the race, and when it comes to the Firebird wrestling team that holds true. For the third week in a row the Firebird wrestling team added another placer to the podium making a total of three this week. At 138 pounds sophomore Jake Gerding placed 6th, snagging his first varsity tournament placement of his career. Like Gerding, 220 pound senior Kingston Shorter also captured his first varsity placement this weekend taking 6th. Senior 160 pound wrestler Joey Bradberry was the lone Firebird champion on the weekend, winning his title with a technical fall in the finals.
“We are seeing guys get better each week and that is key” Head coach Tony Bradberry said. “We aren’t looking to peak now, we are trying to peak in February and the last couple weeks are trending in that direction.”
The Firebirds will be back in action this weekend at Lakota West as they host Winton Woods, Ross, and West Clermont in a Super Tri. Wrestling will begin at 10AM int he LWHS gymnasium.
