Lakota West Senior Sarah Jones (’18) has verbally committed to play basketball and continue her education at Embry-Riddle University next school year.
Coach Andy Fishman says:
Sarah is a high-energy maximum effort player. She is very hard-working and puts extra quality time in to working on her shooting and handles. She displays daily competitiveness, is a great teammate, and easy to coach. College coaches have shared what we see all the time with Sarah showing ability to lock down as a defender, rebound, and score the ball from well beyond arch as well as handle and pass the ball to make herself and teammates better. Embry-Riddle first saw Sarah this April at an NCAA USJN event in Columbus. Their coaches reached out. Throughout the summer, Sarah started to get open to the possibility of college and basketball away from home in Daytona Beach, the coaches told us Sarah was their top priority in the 2018 class. When Sarah was on an official visit, she loved the school, girls, and coaches and said it just felt right. We are all very happy and excited for Sarah.
When did this school come into the picture?
I chose Embry-Riddle University because when I went on my official visit the school felt like home. I knew that’s where I wanted to attend. I wanted a smaller environment that would give me a great education, continuing my love for God and play the sport I love. I wanted the girls there to feel like my own sisters, be caring and help me along the way. I also wanted to be able to experience the real world on my own because I’m not going to be with my parents forever.
What other schools did you consider?
I considered attending to St. Francis, Cleveland state, New Hampshire, Ashland university, Miami and UC.
Did anyone help you through the recruiting process?
My mom, coach Fishman and my faith in God helped me the most through this process. It’s mainly my decision but I needed someone to dig deeper inside me with their advice since this will be my life after high school.
What are your strengths?
My strengths are attacking the rim, scoring, dishing as well as shooting the three ball. Overall my biggest strength is my defensive intensity.
What do you think you need to improve before starting college?
I personally need to improve on my speed, quickness and change of direction.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Congrats Sarah! #WestPride #WEareLakota
