It’s been less than a month since Sophomore Natalia Sompolvorachai was awarded the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Women’s Sports Association 2017 High School Player of the Year in Golf and last night she picked up another major award, the Cincinnati.com Greater Cincinnati Sports Award for Girls Golfer of the Year presented by Beacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
The awards banquet was hosted at the Aronoff Center Monday night with emcee Lindsay Patterson and featured speaker Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis. Sompolvorachai was one of 33 local high school athletes honored. In her acceptance speech she thanked her friends, coaches, family and “most importantly” her parents, Siripoj and Monticha Sompolvorachai.
It was an eventful year for Sompolvorachai in 2016. Last Spring, she won the 14-15 Age Group Chipping Championship in the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National Golf Course. The event aired live on the Golf Channel the week prior to the Masters Tournament. This past fall, she finished 10th (2nd team All-State) at the OHSAA State Championships. It was the best finish by any Division I girls golfer from Southwest Ohio. Prior to the State Championships, Sompolvorachai won the GMC Tournament and was named GMC Girls Golf Athlete of the Year. To top off her 2016 season, Sompolvorachai served as one the Grand Marshals at the Annual West Chester Christmas Parade.
