Game Summary by Bob Ashby

Princeton High School, Cincinnati, OH- March 04, 2017-   Beavercreek began the game with a 14 to 2 point run in the opening seven minutes.  The Firebirds made two steals which  yielded four points in the last 30 seconds of the first stanza.  These two steals ignited a rapid, 2 minute, Lakota West 12-0 run tying the game 14-14.  The Beavers soon regained the lead and were still leading by eight points with under seven minutes left in the game.  The Firebirds once again erupted with a 10-0 run that took them from eight down to two up (45-43) by the fourth quarter midpoint.  This was West’s first lead of the game.  A quick exchange of baskets moved the score up to 47-45 with 2:34 to go.  The Beavers made two free throws tying the game for the third time with the clock now down to two minutes.  Beavercreek got back to the free throw line with just under two minutes showing.  After making their first free throw they added a field goal when the rebound from the missed second free throw was wildly batted up in the air and came down in the basket.  Abby Prohaska responded in the blink of an eye with a quick basket, then a steal, followed by another basket to put the Firebirds back on top by one (51-50) with under a minute left.   Beavercreek came up empty on two free throw attempts with 46 seconds remaining and the Firebirds took possession with a rebound.  Sarah Jones made both free throws resulting from an intentional foul with three seconds left to end the scoring.  Jones was the games leading scorer with 19 points and kept the Firebirds in the game by sinking three consecutive treys to end the first half.  Jones also spearheaded West’s defense with a game high three steals.  Prohaska was right behind Jones with 18 points scoring 11 in the final period  as the Firebirds surged to a 20 point fourth period comeback.  She was also the games leading rebounder with 8.
The Firebirds led the Beavers 7-1 in points off the bench.  Emma Haynes contributed four points on two field goals during the early 10 point run.  Haynes opportunities came when she stole an inbound pass at the end of the first quarter, and on an offensive rebound stick back goal to open the second quarter.  Ally Haar made a trey to ignite the fourth quarter 10 point run that gave the Firebirds their first lead.  Haar logged 18 minutes in the win, fourth most on the team.
