Lakota West Senior Courtney Whited (’17), daughter of Christine and Larry Whited, recently made a commitment to further her education and continue playing volleyball at Heidelberg University. The 5’5″ defensive specialist also considered attending Lee University and Baldwin Wallace. Whited plans to major in business.
“I chose this college because the girls and coach both made me feel very welcomed and the campus is a perfect fit for me,” said Whited.
Whited was a starter on the ’16 varsity squad that finished the season with a 18-7 record. Whited was the recipient of the Shayna Smith Beautiful Light Award given to a player with a caring and compassionate attitude.
She first visited the school in October and had an overnight on December 3rd. “That is when I realized I fit in with girls and felt the campus was right for me. I could tell the coach was very excited to have me,” said Whited.
Whited says Heidelberg became interested after they watched a video of Whited using the National Collegiate Scouting Association athletic recruiting site.
“Courtney is an excellent passer and defender. She reads hitters well. I’m excited that she can take her game to the next level. Heidelberg will be a great fit for her academically and athletically,” said Lakota West Girls Volleyball Coach Tracey Kornau.
Heidelberg University is located in Tiffin, Ohio and affiliated with NCAA Division III athletics as a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference. The team is led by Head Volleyball Coach Jason Miller and recorded a 23-10 record in 2016.
