 Ryan Addington Ryan Addington
Senior, Baseball
Ryan contributed to the Lakota West win over Harrison on Saturday with a triple helping the Firebirds advance to the District finals.  Addington, always a threat on the base paths, is leading the team in stolen bases for the season with 13.
kellymcmanus Kelly McManus
Freshman, Track
Kelly finished 3rd in the 1600 meter run and 4th in the 3200 meter run at the Cincinnati district meet held Friday at Winton Woods.  She is the only Firebird to qualify for the Regional meet in two events.  McManus also helped add points to the Lakota West district meet total by running a leg on the seventh place 4X800 meter relay team and finished the meet as the teams high scorer.

Grant Schuermann Grant Schuermann
Junior, Baseball
Grant was the winning pitcher in Friday’s second round tournament win over Hamilton (score 5-3).  His upset victory followed a two game regular season series sweep  of the Firebirds by the Big Blue and enabled West to move on to the district semifinals (final 64).  Schuermann’s win improved his season record to 5 wins against just 2 losses.
madelinekurtz Madeline Kurtz
Sophomore, Softball
Madeline pitched three games in three days this week (monday through wednesday) winning them all while allowing only a single run to be scored.  Kurtz upped her consecutive games won streak to nine and now sports a 10-1 record for the season.  Her two most recent victories came in tournament play and take the Firebirds to the district semifinals (final 64)

Gurman Sekhon Gurman Sekhon
Senior, Volleyball
Gurman led the Firebirds in kills in all three games played this week including a game high 15 in the win over Fairmont in Thursdays Senior night game.  Sekhon, an outside hitter, is currently leading the GMC with a 4.52 kills/game average.
haleyjohnson Haley Johnson
Sophomore, Softball
Haley hit safely in both games played this week and currently has the highest batting average (.474) on the Lakota West team.  In an outstanding display of hitting at Princeton on Thursday Johnson was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run to drive in 3 Firebird runs. Defensively Haley is the teams starting third baseman.

Mike Anderson Mike Anderson
Senior, Baseball
Mike had a home run and a double leading to 4 RBI in West’s 8-1 win over Springboro on Saturday.  Anderson also had two hits in four at bats in the previous days win over Sycamore.
kellymcmanus Kelly McManus
Freshman, Track and Field
Kelly led the Firebirds in scoring at the Princeton Invitational meet on Tuesday.  McManus had second place finishes in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs.  She was also a member of  West’s third place 4X800 relay team.

Dante-Jones Dante Jones
Sophomore, Track and Field
Dante finished first in the long jump at both the Plank Invitational on Tuesday, and at the LaRosa’s Invitational on Thursday.  Jumping against competitors from seven other schools Jones set a new Plank meet record of 20′ 4″  and then upped his winning effort to 21′ 2.5″ in the ten school LaRosa’s meet two night’s later.
sydneyhill Sydney Hill
Sophomore, Track and Field
Sydney posted a double victory winning both the 100 meter low and 300 meter intermediate hurdle events at the Plank Invitational meet at Talawanda on Tuesday.  Both of Hill’s winning times (17.2 & 50.9) established new meet records.  She just missed her second double of the week by finishing first in the 300 meter hurdles at the LaRosa’s invitational, and then finishing in the runner-up spot in the 100 meter event.  Even though Hill missed the double at the 12 school LaRosa’s meet she lowered her times in both races.

Sebastian DeSantiago
Senior, Track and Field
Sebastian set a new Lakota West pole vault record with a clearance of 12′ 6″ to win the Harrison Invitational on Friday.  His vault at Harrison gave him his second first place finish of the week and followed his record tying effort of 12′ at West Carrolton’s Bogan Relay on Monday.  All-in-all DeSantiago’s wins came over vaulters from 16 different schools.

Sophomore, Softball
Marisa was spectacular at the plate going 3 for 3, with 2 doubles, and a homerun in the Firebirds 20-0 win over Princeton on Monday.  Brown was credited with 5 RBI’s against the Vikes.  She added another RBI in West’s 3-0 win at Colerain on Wednesday bringing in what proved to be the winning run.  At weeks end Brown was tied for the Greater Miami Conference RBI lead with 14.

Will Wilson
Senior, Track and Field
Will finished second out of an initial field of 45 high jumpers at the Cincinnati Coaches Classic Division 1 meet.  He cleared 6′ 0″ in Friday’s finals at Winton Woods.  Wilson was credited with the meets highest clearance, 6′ 4″, during the prelims at Mason on Wednesday.
ashleycummins Ashley Cummins
Sophomore, Softball
Ashley batted in two runs and scored a run herself to provide the margin of victory in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over Fairfield.  Cummins also contributed an RBI in the win over Lakota East on Monday.  Lakota West improved their record in the GMC to 4-0 with these two wins.

Erik Hunkemoller Erik Hunkemoeller
Junior, Baseball
Erik’s hot bat propelled the Firebirds to a 10-0 win over Kings on Saturday.  Hunkemoeller went two for two at the plate including a home run.  He accounted for a team leading five of the runs batted in.
ashleysharp Ashley Sharp
Junior, Softball
Ashley led West to an 8-0 win over Olentangy Orange in a game played at Pickerington North on Saturday.Sharp was the winning pitcher fanning eight of the opposition batters.  At the plate she helped her cause by going 2 for 4, both home runs, producing 5 RBI.  Sharp’s two home runs also ties the Lakota West single game record for most round trippers.

John Raker
Senior, Swimming
John broke the oldest record in the Lakota West swimming record book*  while competing in the Southwest District meet at Miami University on Friday.  Raker’s time of 59.01 in the 100 yard breast stroke topped the previous Firebird record set by Michael Hewitt back in 1998.  Racker’s time was also good enough to qualify for the State Final meet where he will also compete in the 100 fly and as a member of two relay teams.  (*Note, Lakota West Swim records have been kept since 1997-98)
Casey Frazier
Junior, Swimming
Casey swam in two individual and two relay events on Friday, all of which resulted in new Lakota School District records**.  Her four events were the 200 yard individual medley, the 100 breast stroke, the 200 yard medley relay, and the 200 free relay.  The previous best marks in these events had been posted variously between the years 2004 and 2006. Setting or being part of setting four district records in the same day is thought to be unprecedented.  Frazier also advances to the State meet in all four events. (**Note, Lakota School District Swim records have been kept since 1981-82)

Nick Krauth
Junior, Bowling
Nick bowled both the high game and the high series in the Firebird win over Badin on Tuesday.  He also bowled the high game in a win over Edgewood on Thursday.  The 277 Krauth rolled against Badin was the best single game score posted by anyone on the West team this year.  This is just the latest in a series of good games by Krauth that has helped the team achieve an outstanding 20-2 regular season win-loss record, a new school record. (eclipses the old mark of 15-7 set last year)
Emily Niehaus
Senior, Basketball
Emily, one of two senior captains on a team composed largely of freshman and sophomores, came off the bench to spark  three Firebird wins this week.  On Thursday she rallied this young team to a road win in a difficult environment at McAuley (#6 ranked team in Cincinnati).   Niehaus played nine minutes at critical junctures tallying 5 points on 2/4 shooting, going 1/1 from beyond the arc, hauling down 4 rebounds, dishing out an assist without making a turnover, and adding 2 steals without fouling.  The team came from behind at the half to win by 20 points.  Her performance against McAuley typified her many and varied contributions to team success throughout the season.  West concluded the regular season with 9 consecutive wins and a 19-3 record by beating Oak Hills on Friday.

Kevin Leonhardt
Junior, Wrestling
Kevin won the Greater Miami Conference 145 pound championship at Lakota East on Saturday. He earned the title in convincing fashion with a 0:58 second pin, a 3:12 minute pin, and a 4-0 decision in the final match.  Leonhardt pushed his win total to a team high 28 for the current season and has now earned all-GMC honors in each of his three varsity seasons.
Casey Frazier
Junior, Swimming
Casey won the Greater Miami Conference 100 yard breast stroke event at Mason on Sunday.  She was the only Firebird girl swimmer to bring home an individual championship.  Frazier also added all GMC honors by placing 2nd in the individual medley and by swimming legs on both first and third place relay teams.  She was the highest scoring Lakota West swimmer, boys or girls, in the meet
1/20/13 – 1-26-13
Tyler Bowling
Junior, Basketball
Tyler recorded two scoring/rebounding double-doubles this week.  The first (13 points/14 rebounds) helped power the Firebirds to the Royal 8 tournament championship on Monday.  His second (12 points/13 rebounds) was key to the West road win at Princeton on Friday that gave the Firebirds a share of the GMC lead.  He has now recorded statistical double-doubles in five games this season.
Madison Cox
Senior, Cheerleading
Madison stepped forward to represent Lakota West in the ‘Cheerleader Challenge’  free throw shooting contest at halftime of the Royal 8 tournament championship game at Fairfield on Monday.  Her hapless opponent from Withrow fared no better than the Tiger basketball team she cheered for, as Cox soundly beat her by a 7-1 score setting the tone for the remainder of the evening.  Madison was also a varsity cheerleader for football this fall.

Bryan McNamara
Senior, Swimming
Bryan, competing against swimmers from over 43 other schools in the Southwest Ohio Coaches Classic meet, swam in two finals this weekend.  McNamara’s best finish was third in the 500 yard free style – he also finished 5th in the 200 free.  He was the only Lakota West male swimmer to make the finals in any event and his two final placements were higher that anyone on the Firebird team, boys or girls.  He also swam on three relay teams that advanced to the consolation final (top 16).
Nia Staples
Freshman, Basketball
Nia’s exceptional all around play helped propel the Firebirds to a 55-48 win over Cincinnati’s 8th ranked team, Withrow, at Lakota West on Thursday. Staples led the Firebirds in both rebounding (6) and assists (3), while also contributing 11 points and harassing the Tigers with 5 steals.  Only a freshman, Staples has averaged over 10 points per game through the first 14 games of the season contributing greatly  to the Firebirds 11-3 record.
1/6/13 – 1/12/13
Ali Barnes
Senior, Basketball
Ali led the Firebirds to two GMC wins this week, first at Lakota East on Tuesday, and then at home versus Colerain on Friday.  He excelled in all facets of the game, while confounding the Thunderhawks with team leading totals of 18 points, 6 steals, and 4 assists.  Barnes was also the Firebirds’ top scorer with 14 in the win over the Cardinals.
Rachel Tomasic
Senior, Basketball
Rachel led the Firebirds in scoring in both games played this week, starting with 11 points in the win over East at the Hawks Nest on Wednesday.  She came back on Saturday to record a team high 12 points against the leagues top defensive team, Mason.  Tomasic displayed remarkable shooting accuracy this week, hitting 8-13 overall from the field, including 6-9 from beyond the arc, and 1-1 from the free throw line.

Eli McBurrows
Senior, Wrestling
Eli was the 220 pound winner at the seven school Beavercreek Invitational on Saturday.  McBurrows was one of only two Lakota West winners in the meet and the only West winner in the upper weight classes.  With these tournament wins he has improved his season record to 15-3 with 5 pins.
Joanna Sauter
Senior, Swimming
Joanna was the outstanding sprint swimmer in the eleven school Milford Invitational on Saturday.  Sauter was the first place finisher in both the 50 yard and 100 yard free style events.  She also swam the anchor leg for West’s winning 200 yard free style relay team.

Malik Grove
Junior, Basketball
Malik led Lakota West in scoring with a personnal best 17 points at Fairfield on Friday.  This was Grove’s third double figure scoring game of the current season.
Lauren Cannatelli
Sophomore, Basketball
Lauren was the high scorer in the Firebird Holiday Hoops event tallying 41 points combined in games played this weekend.  Cannatelli led off with 16 points in a win over St. Ursula on Friday, followed by 25 points in the win over Toledo Central Catholic on Saturday.  Cannatelli made an impressive 9 of 19 from behind the 3pt. arc.

Drew Gay
Senior, Bowling
Drew rolled the game high series (472) in West’s win over the cities #1 ranked team, St. Xavier, on Tuesday.  The day previous Gay posted the high Firebird series in a win over Harrison.  Gay has paced West’s keglers to a perfect 11-0 season start and has contributed the teams high series totals in nine of these contests.
Lauren Cannatelli
Sophomore, Basketball
Lauren scored a game high and career best 27 points, and every one was needed, as West eked out a 53-52 over-time win over GMC rival Sycamore on Wednesday.  Cannatelli also recorded team highs of 4 steals and 3 assists.  Her final assist pass contributed to a game winning three point play with only seconds remaining.

Ali Barnes
Senior, Basketball
Ali led the Firebirds in scoring in both games played this week.  He scored 19 at Colerain in a close win on Friday and came back with 22 at home versus Lakota East the next night.  Against Lakota East Barnes also recorded a game high 3 steals bringing his career total to 66, vaulting him up to ninth on the Firebirds all-time steals leader list.
Casey Frazier
Junior, Swimming
Casey placed second in the 100 yard breast stroke at the prestigious Canton Christmas Invitational.  Her runner-up finish came as she competed against forty-four other swimmers representing 27 different schools.  Frazier also finished  6th in the 200 yard individual medley and was the only Firebird female to qualify for and swim in two event finals.

Monty Boykins
Senior, Basketball
Boykins scored the first seven points in overtime propelling West to a 76-72 win over Middletown on Saturday.  Boykins took charge of the game in the second half and overtime by pouring in 24 of his game high 27 points as the Firebirds came from 12 behind. He also pulled down 10 boards to record a scoring and rebounding double-double.  For good measure, Boykins dished out a team leading 3 assists, including the one for the game clinching last basket.
Savannah Rice
Senior, Swimming
Savannah claimed the Firebirds only first place finish, boys or girls, in last Wednesday’s Quad meet which included Lakota East, and two Ursuline teams. Rice, a four year varsity letter winner, won the 100 yard breast stroke and in so doing posted the best time yet recorded by a Greater Miami Conference athlete this season.

Andy Cress
Sophomore, Wrestling
Andy won first place at 145 pounds at the eight team Olentangy Invitational Tournament on Saturday.  Cress was the only Firebird first place winner. His efforts boosted Lakota West to a third place team finish.
Rachel Tomasic
Senior, Basketball
Rachel had a team leading and personal best 15 points in West’s 63-52 season opening win at Mt. Notre Dame on Monday.  She shot a perfect 4 for 4 from both the field and the free throw line.  Tomasic also led the Firebirds with  a  game high two shot blocks to go with 7 points as West won their home and GMC opener against Oak Hills on Thursday.
