Marcos Aull
Freshman, Track and Field
Marcos was the only Lakota West male winner at the Winton Woods District meet this week.  He cleared 6’2″ in the high jump to finish ahead of 20 other jumpers representing 16 different schools.  This jump matched Aull’s previous personal best attained when he won the Blue Heaven Invitational at Hamilton earlier this season.

Kat Burbrink
Senior, Softball
Kat hit a home run to provide the margin of victory in the Firebirds 3-2  win over Centerville in the district semifinal game at Fairmont on Monday.  She then drove in West’s only two runs in their district final game against Mason at Fairfield on Friday.  These three RBI’s raised Burbrink’s career total to 59, the 5th highest in Lakota West softball history.

Mykel Chambers
Junior, Track
Mykel was the only male Firebird to earn All GMC honors in three events at Fridays GMC championship meet.  Chambers won the 200 meter dash, anchored the winning 800 meter relay team, and finished fourth (All GMC Honorable Mention) in the 100 meter dash. Chambers contributions enabled the Firebirds to finish third, their best finish in the last six years.

Sydney Hill
Junior, Track
Sydney, with 18 points,  was the highest scoring Firebird at Fridays GMC championship meet.  Hill finished first in the 100 meter hurdles, providing the girls team with their only win.  She added a second place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.  Her contributions to the West scoring total enabled the team to finish second , the highest finish by a Lakota West girls team in 17 years of competition in this meet.

Brennan O’Callaghan
Senior, Lacrosse
Brennan was the Firebird’s leading scorer  in both Monday’s 10-7 win at Centerville and Friday’s 10-6 Senior night win over Sycamore.  O’Callaghan outscored the opposition in both games tallying 5 goals and 4 assists in Monday’s game followed by 6 goals and 1 assist in Friday night’s victory.  He extended his 2014 goal scoring streak to 16 consecutive games and raised his team leading goals scored total to 58 for the season.

Ashley Sharp
Senior, Softball
Ashley pitched Lakota West to a senior night win on Friday handing Mason a 2-1 loss, and breaking a Comet 15 game win streak.  Sharp threw a seven inning complete game, striking out eight.  Lakota West gained a share of the GMC championship title by winning all three of this weeks games.  Sharp was the winning pitcher in two of these contests and hit safely in all three of them.

Dante Jones
Junior, Track and Field
Dante, competing against 56 other long jumpers representing 31 different schools at the Wayne Invitational on Thursday and Friday, brought home the silver medal.  Jones second place finish was the best finish by any Firebird competing in meet.  His best jump of 21′ 0.5″  at Wayne marked the third time this season that he had exceeded the 21 foot mark and follows a winning jump of 21′ 3″ at  last weeks Winton Warrior Invitational.

Marisa Brown
Junior,Softball
Marisa hit a home run to tie the game against Lakota East and sparked the seventh inning rally that led to West’s 4-3 win over East on Tuesday.  This was a must win that kept the Firebirds in contention for this years GMC championship.  Brown hit her second homer of the week  at Mt. Notre Dame Academy on Saturday.  She leads the team with 4 round trippers for the year and becomes just the third player in Firebird history to hit as many as 11 homers in a career.

Brandon Giltrow
Junior, Baseball
Brandon made key contributions to three Lakota West wins, both defensively as the catcher, and with his bat by cumulatively getting 5 hits in 7 at bats, scoring 4 runs, and driving in 5 runs.
He scored 2 runs in a 2 run win over Colerain on Monday, drove in a team leading 4 RBIs in the win over Middletown on Wednesday, and scored in a 5-4, one run win over Middletown on Friday.  Giltrow reached base safely in 9 of 12 plate appearance this week including a remarkable four times by being hit by a pitch.

Mackenzie Trau
Senior, Lacrosse
Mackenzie led the Firebirds in scoring in both Tuesday’s 17-11 win at Centerville and again in Thursday’s 18-8 win over Lakota East.  Trau was credited with a game high 6 goals to go with  2 assists against the Elks followed by a team leading 5 goals and 3 assists as West topped the Thunderhawks.

Austin Allinger
Junior, Baseball
Austin was the winning pitcher over Princeton on Monday raising his season record to 2 wins and no losses, with one save.  He also started the week with a three game hitting streak going 6 for 8 as the Firebirds added three more GMC wins to take the lead in the league standings.

Madeline Kurtz
Junior, Softball
Madeline pitched a five inning perfect game in a win over Princeton on Monday.  She faced 15 batters striking out 11.  This was her first no hitter and the first Firebird no hitter since 2011.  Kurtz was also effective at the plate in this game with two hits in her three at bats, one a double to drive in a run.  On Wednesday she pitched a shutout over Colerain to raise her season record to 4-0.

Mykel Chambers
Junior, Track
Mykel, with fourth place finishes in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, was the leading scorer for the Firebirds boys team at the Cincinnati Coaches Classic meet.  Chambers high finishes came while competing against runners from 28 Cininnati area Division 1 (large) schools.  He earned ten of Lakota West’s eighteen points.

Sydney Hill
Junior, Track
Sydney, with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles and a fourth in the 300 meter hurdles, was the leading scorer for Lakota West at the Cincinnati Coaches Classic meet.  Hill’s high finishes came against runners from 28 Cincinnati area Division 1 (large) schools.  She added eleven points to West’s team total propelling the Firebirds to an eighth place finish.

Grant Schuermann
Senior, Baseball
Grant was the winning pitcher in the Firebirds first two Greater Miami Conference games.  Schuermann threw a 5-0 shutout against Lakota East on Monday, and followed that with a 4-2 win over Hamilton on Saturday.   Schuermann struck out nine in each game.  He also had an outstanding week at the plate which included two runs batted in against East, followed by a home run and four runs batted in in the next days win over Valley View.

Ashley Sharp
Senior, Softball
Ashley pitched Lakota West to a 5-2 win over Boone County, Kentucky in the Firebird’s season opener on Saturday.  Sharp struck out nine Boone County batters and provided the Rebel defense with problems by getting 2 hits, one a double, in her 4 trips to the plate.

Josh Oeters
Junior, Track and Field
Josh was the highest placer on the West boys track team  at the City Barbecue Tiger Invitational meet held at Withrow on Saturday.  Oeters finished second in the 1600 meter run out of a field of runners from 14 schools.  He covered the distance in a very respectable early season time of 4:55.83.

Kelly McManus
Sophomore, Track and Field
Kelly was the highest Lakota West scorer at the City Barbecue Tiger Invitational meet held at Withrow on Saturday.  McManus won the 1600 meter run and anchored the winning 4X800 relay team while competing against competitors from 14 schools.  McManus ran a time of 5:38.68 on a cold blustery day to finish with a comfortable five second lead over her nearest competitor in the 1600 meter run.

Nia Staples
Sophomore, Basketball
Nia achieved two career highs in Saturday’s regional final game at Wright State’s Nutter Center. Staples high marks were 20 points and 7 assists.  She handled the ball at the point guard position in a fast paced game against the states top team without being charged with a single turnover.  Staples added her new bests to a 17 point, two assist effort in Wednesday’s win over Centerville.  She led the team in assists for the two regional games combined, while finishing second on the team in scoring.

Lauren Canatelli
Junior, Basketball
Lauren led the Firebirds in scoring with a career best 30 points against the states top ranked team, Princeton.  Her performance came in the regional finals at Wright State.  Cannatelli tallied 24 of her 30 by making a school record 8 three point field goals.  She  scored a team leading 48 points for the week having also had the team best of 18 points in West’s win over the states ninth ranked team, Centerville on Wednesday.

Malik Grove
Senior, Basketball
Malik scored 31 points in West’s eight point win over Mt. Healthy Wednesday in the district tournament opener.  This was the highest single game scoring total by a member of the boys basketball team in the last twelve years and was last exceeded fourteen years ago.

Lauren Canatelli
Junior, Basketball
Lauren was the Firebird’s high scorer this week as the team posted two more wins in their climb up the tournament ladder.  She was the games high scorer with 15 in the district championship win on Saturday and was one of two Firebirds to score in double figures, getting 10, as West upset the tournament’s number one seed, Mason, with a 5 point victory on Monday.

Ahmad Peterkin
Senior, Basketball
Ahmad was credited with a game high 8 assists as West scored a school record 98 points in the win at Sycamore on Tuesday.  Peterkin’s assist total was the most tallied by a Firebird in a single game in the past four years.  He accomplished this without committing any turnovers and while scoring 11 points himself.

Arianne Whitaker
Junior, Basketball
Arianne had 14 rebounds and 10 points in slightly over a half  in West’s second round post season tournament win over Hamilton Thursday.  In the first half she grabbed 13 boards, two more than the entire Hamilton team’s first half total.  Whitaker finished with her fifth double-double of the season.

Kevin Leonhardt
Senior, Wrestling
Kevin won the 152 pound Dayton 1 sectional championship at Centerville this weekend.  He won each of his four matches with pins, the last three coming in the first period.  Leonhardt raised his career win total to 120 which moves him into the Lakota School district’s all time top 10.

Casey Frazier
Senior, Swimming
Casey became the Lakota school district’s first female swimmer to win a district championship.  Her historic win came in the 100 yard breast stroke at the Southwest Ohio meet at Miami University on Saturday.  Frazier set or helped set three new Lakota school district records, two in individual events and as a member of a relay team.  She qualified for the State meet in a maximum four events.

Nick Krauth
Senior, Bowling
Nick set a new Lakota West two game series scoring record in Thursday’s win over Cincinnati Christian.  Krauth just missed perfection as he recorded a score of 299 after leaving one lone seven pin in the tenth frame of his first game.  He rolled a 244 second game for a series total of 543, seventeen pins better than the previous record which had stood for three years.

Casey Frazier
Senior, Swimming
Casey won the 100 yard breast stroke at the Cincinnati Sectional held at Keating Natatorium on Saturday.  She had the best time of any of the 188 competitors who participated in this event in this years four Southwest Ohio sectionals.  Frazier is the first Lakota West female to win a sectional title in a swimming event since 1999.

Dylan Lawson
Senior, Bowling
Dylan rolled Lakota West’s best two game series scores in both matches played this week.  In Monday’s contest against St. Xavier Lawson tallied a 441 series (218, 223) enabling the Firebirds to post their highest dual match scoring total of the season.

Elisabeth Carter
Senior, Basketball
Elisabeth moved onto the Lakota West Career Top Ten List for Rebounding.  This week Carter, playing in the starting line-up for three Firebird wins, brought down a total of 19 rebounds and vaulted up two places on the career rebounding ladder.  She now ranks 9th among the 100 players who have appeared in girls varsity basketball games and is positioned to move higher before the season ends.

Drew Fenton
Sophomore, Wrestling
Drew won both of his matches in the opening rounds of the State Team Tournament on Wednesday.  In his first bout he wrestled in the 182 pound class winning with a pin in just over a minute (1:26).  In his second match of the tournament he wrestled up in the 195 pound class and again won with a pin (time 4:19).  Fenton has recorded 27 victories so far this season with over half, 16, being decided by pins.

Lauren Cannatelli
Junior, Basketball
Lauren had team leading totals of 24 points and 5 assists while leading the Firebirds to a GMC road win at Colerain on Thursday.  She put on an impressive  display of long range shooting by making 7 of 12 from beyond the three point arc.  Earlier in the week she contributed 12 points in a 9 point win over highly regarded Toledo Rogers at the Classic in the Country.

Latrell Tidwell
Senior, Basketball
Latrell was a standout in two closely contested Royal 8 Tournament wins this weekend propelling the Firebirds into the tournament finals. Tidwell just missed a double-double getting 11 points and 9 rebounds in Friday’s win over Withrow.  He came back the next night with 10 points and a season high 16 rebounds in the semi-final win over Elder. Tidwell also led the team in assists in Saturday’s win.

Casey Frazier
Senior, Swimming
Casey was Lakota West’s high scorer and the only individual placer at the Southwest Classic meet this weekend.  Swimming against competitors from 44 other schools Frazier finished 6th in the 200 yard breast stroke and 7th in the 400 yard individual medley.  In addition she swam a leg on the 11th place 400 yard free style relay team.

Junior, Swimming
Jackson was the West boy’s high scorer in the meet with Anderson at Keating Natatorium on Saturday.  Tinsley was an individual winner in both the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard back stroke.  He also swam legs on two winning relay foursomes; the 200 yard medley and 400 yard free.

Sophomore, Swimming
Nevie was co-high scorer as the West girls posted a win over Anderson at Keating Natatorium on Saturday.  Rice was a winner in a diverse combination of events. She won the meet’s longest race, the 500 yard free style, added another win in the 200 yard individual medley, and contributed to wins in two relay events; the 200 yard medley and the 400 yard free style.

Tyler Bowling
Senior, Basketball
Tyler led the team in rebounding as the Firebirds posted a critical two point win at Mason on Friday.  Beyond his rebounding, Bowling scored in double figures (10 points) by making 4 of 5 field goal attempts and sinking 2 of 2 free throws.  He also blocked two shots, the second with only a minute remaining to preserve West’s two point lead.

Tiffany Howard
Junior, Swimming
Tiffany was the co-scoring leader as the Firebirds won the Milford Invitational Meet on Saturday.  Competing against swimmers from 14 other schools, Howard won the 100 yard backstroke, swam legs on two winning relay teams, and added a runner-up finish in the 200 yard individual medley.

Malik Grove
Senior, Basketball
Malik was the games leading scorer with 27 points in West’s overtime win over Wayne in the GMC/GWOC Conference Challenge event at Fairfield on Saturday.  Grove stole the ball six times, just one theft shy of the Lakota West school record.  Two of his steals and six of his points came in the fourth quarter as he brought the Firebirds back from an eight point deficit.  He added two more points in overtime as West eked out a one point win.

Arianne Whitaker
Junior, Basketball
Arianne led her team in both rebounds (19) and shot blocks (5) as the Firebirds swept their Holiday Hoops event  with wins over St. Ursula and Seton on Saturday and Sunday.  In Saturday’s game Whitaker scored a team best and personal best 17 points.  She also had game highs of 14 rebound and 4 shot blocks.  Her 14 rebounds was also a personal best.  She shared team leadership with 5 boards in Sunday’s win.

Kevin Leonhardt
Senior, Wrestling
Kevin finished second out of 34 entrants in the 152 pound division, the best finish by a Firebird, at the Glen Sample Coaches Classic tournament held this weekend at Harrison.  Earlier in the week he won two matches at the Middletown Tri-meet with pins.  His four wins at the Classic were also by pins.   So far this season Leonhardt’s record is an outstanding 13-1 with 11 of his victories coming via pins.

Danielle Wells
Sophomore, Basketball
Danielle’s 16 points was the game high as the Firebirds beat district rival Lakota East on Wednesday.  Wells achieved shooting perfection making 6 of 6 shots from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line.  She also led the West defensive effort with a game high 5 steals.   Earlier in the week  Wells had been the team steals leader in the win over Springboro.

Ben Pawlukiewicz
Junior, Swimming
Ben won two events, the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard free style, at the Colerain/Mariemont Quad Meet on Saturday.  In addition to these two individual victories he swam a leg on the Firebirds winning 200 medley relay team.  Pawlukiewicz was the only member of the Lakota West boys team to win an individual event in this meet.

Lauren Cannatelli
Junior, Basketball
Lauren was the Firebirds leading scorer in both games played this week.  She had a team best 17 at Princeton on Wednesday, and was the game high scorer with 14 in Saturday’s home win over Hamilton.  These games raised her average for the season to 12.0 ppg, currently the fifth best in the Greater Miami Conference.

Logan Brown
Junior, Wrestling
Logan won the fourteenth and final bout in the East/West rivalry match on Thursday, to give West a dramatic come from behind team victory. The Firebirds were one point down when Brown, wrestling in the 136 pound class, stepped onto the mat and delivered a pin 49 seconds into the second period.  Brown also finished second at 126 pounds in the nine team Olentangy Invitational on Saturday.

Mikayla Mueller
Junior, Swimming
Mikayla had the Lakota West girl’s only individual win at the Turpin Tri-meet on Thursday.  Mueller’s win came in the 200 individual medley and helped the Firebirds secure a tie for first place in the meet.  She also competed in the Princeton dual meet on Monday.  She was the teams high scorer for the week with a cumulative total that included wins in three individual and four relay events.

Tyler Williams
Senior, Basketball
Tyler led the Firebirds to a season opening forty point win at Talawanda Saturday night.  He had game high’s of 15 points and 3 assists and was game co-leader with 4 steals, all accomplished in just 17 minutes on the court.

Nia Staples
Sophomore, Basketball
Nia scored a team high 11 points, including the winning basket, in Lakota West’s 53-52 overtime win against Mt. Notre Dame on Tuesday.  As time was expiring, and with the Firebirds trailing by 1, Staples drove the length of the floor and sank the game winner as the final horn sounded.  In addition to her scoring she contributed a team leading 3 assists.

Evan Fix
Senior, Bowling
Evan recorded Lakota West’s high single game and high series scores (267, 469) in the season opening match against Mason.  Fix stands at the top of the GMC’s first week leader board with a 234.5 average.

Arianne Whitaker
Junior, Basketball
Arianne recorded game high totals in rebounding (9), shot blocking (6), and steals (4) to help power the Firebirds to a decisive 56-36 win over Cincinnati’s fourth ranked team, McAuley.  The game was played at Cincinnati State College as part of this years GMC/GCL Shoot Out event. Whitaker’s six shot blocks in a single game ties a Lakota West school record first set during West’s inaugural season, 1997-98.

Malik Grove
Senior, Football
Malik threw for 116 yards and two TD’s in Saturday’s playoff loss to Pickerinton Central.  This was the 14th time that he had reached the century mark with his passing.  Grove ended his high school gridiron career as the winningest quarterback in Lakota School District history.  He garnered 19 wins in his 25 starts behind center and set several other Lakota and Lakota West individual records in the process.

  We are now between seasons for girls athletics and entering this period for boys sports as well.   Athlete of the week selections will resume starting with the week ending November 23 when we begin recognizing outstanding athletes from our Winter sports teams.

C.J. Stalker
Junior, Football
C.J. , playing linebacker, had a season high and game best 14 tackles in the win at Lakota East Friday. Two of his tackles brought down Thunderhawk runners before they could get out of the backfield.  Stalker has led the Firebirds in tackles in five games this season, the last four consecutive.

Girls AOW
West Firebirds
The fall sports season has ended for our Lakota West female athletes.  Congratulations to all the girls who were named as athletes of the week for the season just concluded.  Athlete of the Week selections for girls sports will begin for the winter season starting with the week ending November 23rd.

Evan Miller
Senior, Soccer
Evan scored the winning goal in West’s District Championship victory over St. Xavier on Saturday.  He netted a shot with just four minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie.  Miler was also a major contributor to West’s control of the midfield in Monday’s  6-1 win over Oak Hills.

Gabby Blados
Senior, Volleyball
Gabby was a dominating front line presence in Lakota West’s District semi-final win versus Mercy on Monday, and also in Saturday’s District final game against Lakota East.  Blados’ has confounded opponents with her blocking and hitting skills all season but at no time was this more on display than in this week’s tournament games.

Tyler Jones
Senior, Football
Tyler had two key pass interceptions that led to early Firebirds scores in Friday’s win at Princeton.  These two picks raise his total to four for the season, tied for the top spot on the GMC interception list.  Jones also contributed to the Vikings demise with three punt returns and three solo tackles.

Allie Muha
Senior, Volleyball
Allie, playing the setter position, guided the Firebirds to an opening round victory in the Cincinnati Sectional tournament at Withrow on Saturday.  Muha led the team in assists as they advanced with a four set victory over Little Miami.  Muha, who holds the Lakota West single season assist record which she set in 2012 is now making a strong bid to establish a new career assist record.

Jake Mutlu
Junior, Soccer
Jake, a goal keeper, was credited with two shut outs this week.  The first came on Tuesday and was a six save gem  to force a 0-0 tie with Mason the number 1 ranked team in Ohio.  The Comets were previously undefeated and untied for the season.  In a second shutout on Thursday Mutlu made five stops, including a difficult and potentially game changing save early in the game, to set the stage for West’s 4-0 rivalry win over Lakota East.  This week’s shutouts were his 8th and 9th of the season.

Kelly McManus
Sophomore, Cross Country
Kelly earned all GMC first team honors with an 8th place finish in a field of 61 at the Greater Miami Conference Championship meet at Voice Of America park on Saturday.  McManus, a model of consistency, has led the Firebird’s  in all of the nine races they’ve competed in this year and has been the individual winner in two of these races.

Chase Martini
Sophomore, Golf
Chase is the only Firebird to qualify for the Boys Southwest Ohio district golf tournament.  He carded a season personal best score of 78 over the Glenview golf course on Tuesday (10/1).   Martini finished 7th in a field of 74 players from 15 different schools who were competing in the Cincinnati East sectional tournament.

Sharon Danquah
Junior, Tennis
Sharon advanced to the finals of the Dayton Sectional this week and will play for the Sectional championship on Monday (10/7).  She powered her way to the finals by posting straight set wins over all four of her early round opponents.  Danquah upped her record as a first singles player to a sterling 19-6 for the season.  By advancing to the sectional finals she has already qualified for the Southwest Ohio District tournament.

Justin Martin

Justin kicked three extra points including the game winner in West’s 21-20 overtime victory over Sycamore on Friday.  This was a pressure packed game with conference and playoff implications.  Undaunted, Martin put the ball squarely between the uprights just as he had done 19 consecutive times before.  He had just been cleared to play on Thursday after having had surgery for a broken collar bone the previous Friday.   This was Martin’s 68th and perhaps his most important extra point conversion for the Firebirds.

Lauren Heger
Senior, Soccer
Lauren, a senior, did her part to make senior night a success on Thursday.  Playing in her last regular season home game for the Firebirds Heger scored the first two goals of the contest and was credited with an assist to a fellow senior on another goal enabling West to celebrate with a 4-0 win over Sycamore.  Heger’s first goal, which ultimately proved to be the game winner, caught the Aviators by surprise. She launched it from between 30 and 40 yards out and sailed it just under the crossbar.

Tony Gabbard
Senior, Football
Tony was the leading tackler in West’s 42-7 win in the GMC opener at Hamilton on Friday.  Gabbard, a defensive lineman, made seven stops including one tackle for loss, and was a continual disruptive influence in the Big Blue back field.  He is a returning all league player who led the GMC in sacks in 2012.

Katie finished third in a field of 60 at this weeks GMC Championship Tournament.  Her’s was the highest place finish among either the girls or boys teams representing Lakota West and earned her a spot on the all GMC first team.  Willis carded back to back 79′s over the demanding Weatherwax golf course as she led the Firebird team to a third place finish.

Joe Clear
Senior, Soccer
Joe had the “Hat Trick” (3 goals in a game) in Thursday’s GMC win over Colerain.  West led by just one goal until Clear put the game out of the Cardinals reach by scoring three consecutive goals between the games twelfth and fifty-seventh minutes with each of these goals being unassisted.

Ally Wimmers
Senior, Soccer
Ally played in three matches this week and was the only Firebird to figure in the scoring in all of them.  On Tuesday Wimmers scored the first goal in a 3-0 win over Princeton.  On Thursday she scored the insurance goal, unassisted, in a 2-0 win over Colerain, and on Saturday she assisted on the only West goal scored in a narrow 1-2 loss at Walnut Hills.

Mikel Horton
Senior, Football
Mikel scored two of West’s three touchdowns in the Firebird’s 21-18 win over Glen Este on Friday.  His TD runs were both long gainers going for 15 and 52 yards respectively.  Horton was the games leading rusher totaling 117 yards on 10 carries and added a pass reception for 11 more yards.

Kelly McManus
Sophomore, Cross Country
Kelly was the individual champion out of a field of 73 runners from 8 schools at Saturday’s Princeton Viking Invitational meet. This was the third consecutive race this year in which she has recorded a time under 20 minutes over the 5000 meter distance.

Malik Grove
Senior, Football
Malik threw three touchdown passes to tie a Lakota West single game passing record in Sunday’s game at Winton Woods. Grove engineered a dramatic 11 play drive over the final two minutes of the game that included five passes totaling 77 yards and ended with a pass for the game tying score with only 6 seconds showing on the clock. He passed for 177 yards total and had no interceptions.

Gabby Blados

Gabby, a middle hitter, has been a formidable presence on the front line in the opening games of the season. Blados had a team leading and game high 18 kills in the Firebirds season opening win over Beavercreek and has also been an intimidating blocker.

Ryan Mason
Senior, Cross Country
Ryan was the individual winner as West won their season opening meet versus Harrison on Monday. He then finished as the runner-up in a field of 50 runners at the Lakota Fall Classic on Saturday. In just four days he lowered his time over the VOA 5K course by 55 seconds.

Sharon Danquah
Junior, Tennis
Sharon competed in five matches this week, all in the first singles slot. She finished the week with four consecutive wins. Wins one and two in this streak helped West get off to a 2-0 start in GMC competition. Danquah’s win on Friday provided the margin of victory as the Firebirds advanced in the Coaches State Team Tournament with a 3-2 win over Bellbrook.

Jake played in four events this week leading the team in scoring in three of these matches and now has the teams low scoring average. He tallied 78′s on both Wednesday and Thursday at the Fairfield Invitational and the Centerville Elks Invitational tournaments.

Shannon played in four events this week leading the team in scoring in three of these matches and had the teams low total cumulatively. She had West’s low score in Thursday’s tri match against Mt. Notre Dame and Oak Hills enabling the Firebirds to get off to a 2-0 start in head to head match competition.

Tommy Tran

Tommy, playing in just his second varsity match, was the leading Firebird scorer at the Anderson Invitational on Thursday. Tran posted a two over par 74 on the Legendary Run Golf Course to place him among the tournament leaders.

Katie Willis
Senior, Golf
Katie had the best cumulative score of the week for the Lakota West team which competed in three eighteen hole tournaments. Willis fired career personal best 81′s on both Wednesday and Saturday while competing in the Middletown and Villa Madonna Invitationals respectively.
