Summary by Bob Ashby:
West dampened the Lakota East girl’s soccer senior day celebration by bringing home a 2-1 win over the Hawks on Saturday.  East got on the scoreboard first with a break away goal in the 12th minute only to have West’s Rachel Goodman knot the game four minutes later with a penalty kick goal.   West’s Tori Kelly was able to find a loose ball in front of the frame following a 74th minute corner kick and drive it into the back of the net for the winning score.  Statistically the two teams were very similar with the difference coming from the all important Kelly goal, her third game changing goal of the season.
The Firebirds ended the regular season undefeated in conference play (5-0-4) but their four ties dropped them into fourth place in the GMC standings. The Firebirds have not lost a game since August, winning six and ending six in ties. They enter the sectional tournament with a record of 8-2-6.   West improved their all-time record in the East/West rivalry to 11-6-5, with Saturday’s win over the Hawks.  They begin tournament play at home on 10/19 (7:00 pm) versus the winner of the Seton/Little Miami match.
