Lakota West 7 Centerville 2

The Lakota West Softball team came into Wednesday’s OHSAA Sectional Semi-Final with the longest break between games of the season, seven days.  The Firebirds may have been a little rusty with only one more hit (7-6) than Centerville, GWOC-National East Champions, but the team had four extra-base hits including three doubles and one home run.

The Elks scored early in the first inning after the 2-hole batter, Anna Samborsky was hit by a pitch.  Centerville batters, Sam Ross and Lizzy Leach both hit singles allowing Samorsky to score.

The Firebirds struck back when Junior Allie Cummins stroked a two-run homerun over the left field fence scoring herself and Sophomore Casey Bramble.

Neither team scored in the second inning, but Centerville tied up the game in the top of the 3rd when Karrie Mires grounded out to Lakota West Pitcher Megan Brankamp scoring Ross.

After the first inning homerun, Centerville elected to walk Cummins and Freshman Taylor Williams knocked her in with a single.  Sophomore Cam Wesley followed that up with a double scoring Williams.  Wesley finished the scoring in that inning with an error on the Centerville catcher.

Centerville failed to score again in the game, but West added two more runs in the 4th.  Bramble reached base on an error while Sophomore Alyssa Triner knocked her over to third base with a double.  Junior Lauren Betz and Wesley each knocked in runs with a sacrifice fly.

Senior Emma Rednour led the team at the plate going 2/3 with two bunts. Unfortunately, the Firebirds failed to move her around the bases.  Cummins went 1/2 for the night, but the Elks elected to walk her twice after the initial homerun.  She recorded two runs and two RBI’s for the team.  Wesley also record two RBI’s with her double and SAC fly.
