Tuesday’s softball game at Colerain was an awesome display of offense for the Lakota West Firebirds. The team finished with 19 hits in five innings winning the game 12-1. Junior Allie Cummins led the way hitting for the “cycle” (single, double, triple and HR in the same game), something never before done by a Firebird softball player. She finished with two RBI’s and three runs. Other leaders include Alyssa Triner 2/3 (HR), Cami Wesley 2/3, Lauren Betz 2/3, Megan Brankamp 3/4, Taylor Williams 3/4. Brankamp was the winning pitcher allowing only four hits in five innings.
The Firebirds turned around the next day to beat Fairfield in a 2-1 battle. The game ended early in the 6th due to storms, but the teams had played the minimum 5 innings to make it an official game. Alyssa Triner led the team in hitting 3/3, but it was Lauren Betz’s single to left field in the 5th inning that scored Triner and Allie Cummins. Once again, Brankamp was the winning pitcher spreading out five fits in six innings and allowing only one run. She also recorded eight strikeouts.
The Firebirds are currently 3rd in the GMC (5-3, 4-1) and play their next game at Oak Hills on Monday, 5pm.
