Game Summary by Bob Ashby

Sometimes less turns out to be more. Back in January the Firebirds scored 42 at Middletown and lost by eleven. Now it’s February, they scored 41 and won by three. The West offense was conducted like a medieval siege where stones are patiently lobbed over the castle wall until the victory is won. Twenty three shots were launched from beyond the three point arc by five different Firebird players and eleven shots found the mark. Although West led most of the game a late Middie surge put the Firebirds behind by two (36-38) with less than two minutes on the clock. At that point Cameron Anzer made a lead restoring three pointer, the 11th and final Firebird three of the game. The Middies were forced to make an intentional foul to stop the clock with 11 seconds remaining. Frank Schmitt then made two insurance free throws, the only two free throws the Firebirds shot in this game. Anzer led all scorers with 17 points, 15 of which resulted from making 5 of 10 from long range. Bash Wieland hit on 3 of 6 from afar and scored 11 points total for the evening. Frank Schmitt added two treys and Will Nguyen another. Schmitt also led the team with 4 assists and played a complete 32 minute game. The senior night starters were Conner Howard, Will Nguyen, Frank Schmitt, Cameron Anzer, and Malachi Hughes. Malachi led the team in rebounding with 4 boards.
