Fairfield began this game with a 7-3 overall record and standing at 3rd place in the GMC right behind Lakota West in 2nd. They left the Mainstreet Arena with a much fuller appreciation of the distance between 2nd and 3rd place in the league. The Firebirds jumped out to a double digit lead (23-10) before the first quarter ended and continued building on that lead as the game progressed. Abby Prohaska led all scorers with 15, closely followed by Jasmine Ballew with 13, and Sarah Jones with 12. Prohaska was also the team leader with 4 assists. Ballew was the high rebounder of the game taking down 6 boards. Sarah Jones was the leader of the ball hawking defense with 6 steals. Ally Haar just missed being the Firebird’s fourth double figure scorer getting 9 points while dishing out 4 assists to share team leadership in that department. Haar shot a flawless 4 for 4 from the field including one from beyond the 3 point arc. Christine Laritz contributed a game high 2 shot blocks, added 2 steals and an assist, while scoring 4. West’s 3-point field goal percentage was an outstanding 58.3% (7 of 12). Abby Prohaska connected on 3/4 followed by Jasmine Ballew with 2/2, Alexandra Haar with 1/1, and Madisyn Oxley at 1/3. By contrast the Indians came up empty handed from behind the arc (0-7). Twenty-nine points of the Firebird advantage was attributed to points off of turnovers (32-3).
