The Lakota West girls tennis team entered Tuesday’s dual match against district rival Lakota East as the underdog according to the Cincinnati Enquirer coaches poll.  The #9 ranked Firebirds scored a 3-2 victory over the #7 ranked Thunderhawks.  West was led by four year varsity veteran Nicole Sturgeon who secured the team victory by winning at first singles 6-2, 6-3.  The first doubles team of Jen Ellison and Florine Sanchez won 6-2, 6-2 and the second doubles team of Olivia Popp and Abby Sturgeon followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win.  It’s the first time the Firebirds have beaten Lakota East in a dual since 2009.

The Firebirds start play in the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association (GCTCA) on Thursday.

*The dual victory gives Lakota West one point in the Lakota All-Sports Challenge Cup.  (http://westfirebirds.com/hq/lakota-west-vs-lakota-east-head-to-head-trophy/)
