West Firebirds student-athletes are not only getting it done on the playing fields, but they are making tremendous strides in the classroom as well.
More than 72% of all Firebird student-athletes made High Honor/Honor Roll for the 2014-2015 school year, meaning they earned a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
Of those 363 student-athletes, 255 of them made High Honor Roll with 3.5 GPA and above. 108 student-athletes ended up on the Honor Roll with a 3.0-3.4 GPA, showing great dedication both on and off the field.
“It is so important to have our Student-Athlete achieve at a high level in the classroom. These young people are role models for our next generation of Firebirds. It shows these young Firebirds there is a reason that STUDENT comes before athlete. Doing well academically also opens many more doors for them if they want to participate in college. It shows they have the drive, time management skills, and character to do well in different areas. As the principal, I take great pride in seeing them be successful in the classroom and in the athletic arena,” said Lakota West Principal Elgin Card
We are very proud to see our student-athletes excel in the classroom. Congrats to you all and we hope 2015-2016 brings even better results. #westpride
