The Lakota West track and field team had first place finishes in ten events at the 3rd Annual Dale Plank Invitational meet, and each of the winning times and distances established new meet records.
The West boy’s team had top finishes in the long jump (Dante Jones, 20′ 4″), shot (Kyle Meadows, 49′ 11″), pole vault (Sebastian DeSantiago, 12′ 6″), and two relays (4X100 &4X400, see track results tables for more detail). These record setting performances enabled the Firebirds to take home the first place team trophy over six other schools. West’s team total of 135 points topped host school Talawanda’s second place tally of 115. Other notable individual performance were second place finishes turned in by Dante Jones (110 meter hurdles), Mykel Chambers (100 meter dash), Trent Rogers (long jump), and Kyle Meadows (discus).
The West girl’s team matched their male counterparts by also winning five event’s and each in meet record setting times. They were led by a pair of dual event winners. Sydney Hill won both hurdles events the 100 meter low hurdles, and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. Kelly McManus matched Hill’s double win by taking first in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, the grueling distance double. The girls fifth win and fifth record setting performance came in the 4X200 relay. The Firebird girls finished third with 101 points, just being nosed out of the top spots by Talawanda (107) and Eaton (103). Eight schools had girls teams entered in the meet.
